The Toddling

The boy toddles. He takes a few steps, chirping with delight, and usually falls to his bottom. He has turned, backed up, and negotiated his way around and over objects on these five-step treks. I guess that makes him a toddler, although he is still very much a baby. They are overlapping phases. He’s more [...]

August Roundup

I’ve been a bit derelict in linking back to reviews of Mudville I find around the blogosphere, or at least the good ones, but a couple of recent highlights include Ms. Foltz’s review on the O.W.L. for YA blog and Max’s review on Minnesota Reads. I’m also honored to see that Mudville made Booklist’s list [...]

My buddy Jon Skovron got a favorable review from Corey Doctorow, but I did him one better… a thumbs up from Little Brother.

Mudville reviewed by Mudville

I noticed this week that Mudville got a mention on a list of new baseball books in Baseball America, and baseball blogger John Ames of The Arizona Daily Star took notice. I could make much hay of this quote: Mudville (Knopf) by Kurtis Scaletta appears Pulitzer-bound, not to mention Caldecott, Newbery, Nobel, etc. Except context [...]

Random Roundup

I had a very interesting day that I’m too tired to blog about, but wanted to get a few Mudville things posted before I forget (I’m sure I’ve forgotten others, or simply not found them). First, a store owner at Learning Express in San Antonio was nice enough to send me this photo of their [...]

Recap and Roundup

The recap and roundup seem to go hand in hand today, so they are sharing a blog post. For example, duckologist and bookseller, Dara Dokas, wrote a nice blog post about Mudville, and she also hosted the event at Micawbers store on Saturday afternoon, where I read from the book and Chuck W. Knott of [...]

Last Roundup I Bet

I figure after publication week, things to link to will be few and further in between, unless rain is the new vampire when it comes to hot books. Still, here are no fewer than four recent additions to Mudvillemania on the web. First and foremost was a mention in Publisher’s Weekly’s daily email newsletter that [...]

Today was the big day, and my aggregator shows it. Thanks to everyone who posted Mudville-related announcements and reminders. The 9 Spot with Saundra Mitchell (Shadowed Summer, Delacorte 2009) (aka The Mudville Nine?) Three Questions with Jennifer R. Hubbard (The Secret Year, Viking 2010), who, like Mr. Berk before her, likes to remind me that [...]

Blogging Roundup

My carefully orchestrated media blitz is working! And by that I mean that a few bloggy things have been popping up here and there regarding me and Mudville. First, fellow Random Housian Saundra Mitchell (author of Shadowed Summer, which just hit the shelves) read my book and said some nice things about it on her [...]

The first word on Mudville…

The first review of Mudville was posted over at kidliterate.com. It’s a nice one, too (why else would I link to it?) The voice is great here – Scaletta’s really got the 12 year old thing down. The plot’s got a very nice flow to it – there are a lot of surprises in this [...]
